I never imagined I’d be writing frequently, but I gotta admit, I thought I’d hit one blog post per year. I guess the silence in the first six years hasn’t helped with that goal.

As a fun fact, this isn’t even my first home. I started blogging all the way back in 2007, when WordPress was actually something cool and everyone used it. Back then I was a student still and valued time differently, so I blogged pretty often.

How We Leverage Kubernetes to Deploy Our Cloud Infra

This post has been published on another website.

Time tracking software never really worked for me.

Manual ones were a pain because I had to remember they existed, and that extra click or two just wasn’t intuitive enough for me to keep coming back.

Automatic ones were also a pain because they often miscategorized activities, and in their attempts to be clever, they often introduced more work for me.1

Dygma Defy -- a year with the ergonomic split keyboard

Almost a year ago, on the last day of 2023, I received my final gift of the year. As someone who uses keyboards over 10 hours a day, I had long wanted to try a better one. One I can use my arms wide open, one that feels better and is customizable to my liking. Not being a huge ergomech hobbyist 1 myself, but more of a trying-to-be-informed customer, I wanted to get that “end game” keyboard I’ll want to use for many years to come.

Little Helper -- An ESP32-based USB hardware display

What is it?
#

It’s a touch-enabled LCD screen that shows me hardware metrics from my main PC, mainly the ones related to utilization and temperature. Currently its features are:

Per-core CPU Utilization

CPU Temperature (Max, Avg)

GPU Utilization and Temperature (NVIDIA only)

RAM Usage

VRAM Usage

Notification bar

Date & Time

Top three gauges are utilization percentages, and the bottom three are temperature in Celsius. RAM and VRAM bars alternate every few seconds.

Cutting the red ribbon

A little backstory
#

It’s been 2 years since the last time I’ve written a blog post. In those two years, I have worked two full-time software jobs, learned a TON of new stuff, worked on a few side projects, and got married. 💍

In the meantime, I abandoned the previous blog I maintained since 2007. I couldn’t see the point of keeping a blog in Turkish anymore, and most of the time I felt like I had no story to tell, and not even a single person to listen. After a long break, today I visited it for one last time and got an instant shot of nostalgia. I’ve started and run a community for local mobile Linux enthusiasts and developers 1 there, I’ve announced first (and to this day, only) mobile apps I created, announced a few side projects, shared videos, comics, and opinions on topics I cared about the most. I learned a bit about everything and somehow managed to help a few people along the way.
